The UN estimates that some 180,000 people migrate to live in cities. Did you know Jericho and Damascus are two oldest continiously inhabitated cities in the world, where is some of the largest cities are Mumbai, NewYork, Tokyo and Mexico City. Algeirs is ranked least liveable due to instability, high crime rate and very poor infrastructure where as Vancouver is most liveable.
Most cities have museums, restaurants, hotels, art galleries, entertainment, but most people are attracted to a few specific sights depending on their taste. Some are attracted to the legendary Timbutu in Mali or the Shangri-La city of Thimpu or entrancing Ethiopian city of Harar where as other like expensive five star hotels, night clubs and burger bars.
Whichever cities you put on your own must visit list, make sure you do your research and read as much as you can about your chosen destination before your journey. Gain some knowledge on the city layout history, customs, culture and lanuguage. By saying "Thank You" and "Good Morning" in the local language can often help getting off on the right foot. Always consult your government officials for travel advice and if there are precautions to take. It’s sensible to have travel insurance, pack the right clothes for the time of the year, have appropriate vaccinations, visa and some local currency.
As with all travelling, you should keep you eyes open for any trouble. Don’t expect the same food, same accommodation and same attitude as you would find at home. Explore the possiblities with an open mind, be sensible and enjoy your adventure to various cities of the world.
